How to determine the VD in an FMR case

I share with you my philosophy towards establishing the final VDO.
Personally, I do not establish the VD on the patient, but on the semi-adjustable articulator. 
So first, casts are mounted in CR (taken with the help of Unwind MD, MIK Dental, and BiteAl, MIK Dental). Then basis the amount of space available to restore teeth and the anterior tooth relation at Retruded Contact Position (RCP), I gauge the need for increasing/decreasing the VD.
