It is precisely during the final stage of orthodontic treatment that critical decisions are made — decisions that influence occlusal function, smile aesthetics, and the long-term stability of the treatment result. For the modern orthodontist, it is essential to understand when treatment mechanics need to be modified rather than simply following a standard protocol.
Professor Kleber Meireles is a recognized specialist in orthodontic biomechanics and finishing. For many years, he has focused on the individualization of orthodontic treatment and has trained clinicians in precise control of tooth movement using wire bends, torque, loops, elastic mechanics, and mini-implants. His approach is not based on a collection of isolated techniques, but on clinical decision-making principles that enable predictable functional and aesthetic outcomes.
During the course, you will learn:
— Principles of finishing planning based on facial, smile, and occlusal analysis
— Decision-making algorithms for choosing between bracket rebonding and individualized wire adjustment
— Application of first-, second-, and third-order bends in various clinical situations
— Use of real, relative, retraction, and finishing torques
— Loop mechanics for alignment, retraction, angulation correction, and occlusal plane correction
— Use of elastics and mini-implants to address complex clinical challenges
— Practical techniques to make orthodontic finishing more precise, predictable, and individualized.
All key elements of orthodontic mechanics will be performed hands-on by the participants under the direct supervision of Professor Kleber Meireles, including first- and second-order bends, alignment and leveling loops, various types of torque, torque-control archwires and loops, finishing loops, and retraction and protraction loops. This hands-on format allows participants not only to master the techniques themselves, but also to develop a clinical understanding of when and why to use each specific tool to achieve a predictable treatment outcome.

Day 1 (February 6)
Theory
— Understanding ideal occlusion: define the characteristics of an ideal occlusion and its role in achieving long-term stability and function
— Mastering bonding techniques: learn the details of ideal bonding and understand when to re-bond brackets or bend wires for optimal results
— Precision in wire bending: develop skills in creating precise first-, second-, and third-order bends to address various clinical scenarios
— Torque application: differentiate between real, relative, retraction, and finishing torques and understand their clinical applications
— Loop mechanics: master the design and application of loops for alignment, leveling, retraction, correcting angulation and occlusal planes and more
— Elastic mechanics for finishing: learn to use elastics effectively to optimize mechanics and achieve superior finishing results
— Individual torque adjustments
— Mini-implant-assisted mechanics: explore the use of mini-implants to support finishing mechanics, including plane correction and torque control
— Achieving excellence in finishing: develop a comprehensive understanding of finishing strategies to ensure functional, esthetic, and stable results in orthodontic treatment.

Excellence in Orthodontics
Achieving excellence in orthodontics requires meticulous attention to treatment finishing. Even when using pre-programmed brackets with various built-in prescriptions, proficiency in bends, loops, and torque control remains essential. Individualization in orthodontics is not merely a matter of preference—it is a key tool for achieving optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes.
What is the most effective approach to the traction of ectopic canines? How can the intrusion or extrusion of a single tooth or a group of teeth be effectively achieved? These and other clinical questions will be discussed and addressed throughout the course.
Orthodontic Finishing
The final stage of orthodontic treatment begins with careful planning. The course will cover comprehensive planning protocols, starting with facial analysis, followed by smile analysis, occlusal analysis, and, finally, cephalometric analysis.
Particular attention will be given to smile assessment and its aesthetic principles, with an emphasis on the importance of individualization during bracket placement to achieve the highest quality of finishing. The use of elastics, bends, and loops during the final stages of orthodontic treatment will also be explored.
Challenges and Solutions
Every stage of orthodontic treatment presents potential challenges and risks of error. Anticipating these challenges in advance allows treatment to progress more smoothly and minimizes the need to return to previous stages to correct errors.
Throughout the course, practical solutions using loops, bends, elastics, and other orthodontic tools will be presented for each stage of treatment. Several loops developed by Professor Kleber Meireles are used as auxiliary tools at different stages of orthodontic treatment and will be presented as part of the course.
