The Kois Concept from A to Z!

Embark on a comprehensive program that guides you step by step through the entire Kois Concept — from diagnosis to full functional rehabilitation.

The training is divided into three modules, each combining in-depth theory with hands-on practical exercises. You won’t just learn the concept — you’ll master clinical protocols you can apply immediately in practice.

Module 1 – Foundations of the Kois Concept
Focuses on systematic diagnostics and clinical data collection. You will obtain a clear patient analysis workflow that identifies key risks early, allowing treatment planning on a solid, objective foundation.

Module 2 – Functional Logic
Teaches you how to interpret diagnostic data, distinguish muscular from joint issues, and make evidence-based decisions in occlusal management. You’ll learn to use patient history as a diagnostic tool, identify functional “red flags” before treatment begins, and apply centric relation as the foundation for stable, long-lasting prosthetic outcomes.

Module 3 – Systematic Approach to Tooth Wear and Occlusal Disorders
Covers a structured approach to diagnosing and treating patients with worn dentition and functional occlusal disorders. You will master the workflow from diagnostic screening to full reconstruction of the vertical dimension of occlusion and functional rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system.

Practical training takes place on the second day of each module.

Hands-on practice focuses on the core clinical protocols of the Kois Concept, including:

— Using the Kois Facial Analyzer and transferring data to the Panadent articulator
— Recording centric relation with the Kois Deprogrammer
— Precise diagnostic protocols and cast mounting
— Performing occlusal adjustments
— Functional occlusion refinement using the P1–P3 system.

Program

Module 1 (07.12.2026 - 08.12.2026)

Theory

Data and Risk Management (09:00–12:30)

— Mastery of Clinical Data Collection:

- Precise “Kois 10” registration protocols — ten key clinical parameters, including standardized photographic documentation.

— Four Categories of Risk (P-B-F-D):

- Comprehensive screening of periodontal, biomechanical, functional, and dento-facial risks.

— Kois 10-Step Diagnostic System:

- A structured workflow aimed at minimizing clinical complications and identifying the “weakest link.”

— Dento-Facial Risk Analysis:

- Emma Analysis: E-max (aesthetic exposure), resting lip position, gingival margin contour
- AP Position: determining the optimal anterior-posterior tooth positioning for facial harmony.

Aesthetic Logic and the Kois Concept (13:30–17:00)

— Clinical Interface: Panadent and Kois Analyzer

— Dento-Facial Analyzer:

- Why traditional facebows lack precision and how the Kois system achieves 100% predictability.

— Integration with the Articulator:

- Transferring facial data into the Panadent articulator.

— Traditional Occlusion vs. Kois Occlusion:

- Comparing classical gnathology with the evidence-based, “frictionless” Kois concept.

— Introduction to the Kois Concept:

- The dynamic relationship between tooth form and patient function
- Kois Deprogrammer: scientific rationale for its use and its role in functional diagnostics.

Hands-on

— Kois Glasses:
Working with the Kois Facial Analyzer to record and align the maxillary plane relative to the horizon / natural head position.

— Kois Deprogrammer (KD):
Step-by-step clinical fabrication, adjustment (ADJ), and delivery to the patient.

— Precise Bite Registration:
Mastering the KD-bite to obtain a reproducible physiologic centric relation record using the deprogrammer.

— Facebow:
Clinical demonstration and hands-on practice of Kois protocols for facebow registration and cast mounting in the articulator.

— Clinical Case Demonstration:
Case discussion and analysis using the Panadent articulator.

Module 2 (28.06.2027 - 29.06.2027)

Theory

Diagnostic “Gateways” (09:00–12:30)

— The Power of Patient History: Dental History and Q21:

- Utilizing the 21-question Kois questionnaire to identify functional risks even before the clinical examination
- Identifying “Red Flags”: Differentiating joint instability from muscular dysfunction based on patient responses.

— Clinical Foundation: TMJ and Muscle Assessment:

- Step-by-step clinical protocol for evaluating the TMJ:

  • Joint sound analysis

  • Load testing

— Integrated Analysis:

- Applying the Kois 10-Step Diagnostic System (KDS) from Module 1 to confirm functional diagnoses and guide clinical reasoning.

Functional “Blueprint” (13:30–17:30)

— Bite Management: CR vs. MIP:

- Understanding the differences and clinical significance of Centric Relation (CR) versus Maximum Intercuspation (MIP).

— Functional Occlusion Principles:

- Managing the “chewing envelope” and tooth wear
- Designing occlusion based on the patient’s neuromuscular and behavioral patterns.

— Therapeutic Management with the Kois Deprogrammer:

- Clinical application from functional diagnostics to finalizing the centric relation record
- Establishing a frictionless bite as the foundation for long-term prosthetic success.

Hands-on

— Review and verification of diagnostic casts achieved in Module 1
— Hands-on exercises in occlusal adjustment using printed models
— Centric relation registration using both digital and analog techniques.

Module 3 (13.09.2027 - 14.09.2027)

Theory

Treatment Planning (09:30 – 12:30)

— Managing the Vertical Dimension of Occlusion:

- Move beyond traditional Centric Relation (CR) concepts to therapeutically modify the vertical dimension of occlusion.

— Lateral Cephalometry and Facial Analysis:

- Use lateral cephalometric tracings to define the aesthetic and functional limits of incisal edge position and anterior-posterior (AP) tooth placement.

— Pathological Tooth Wear (P1, P2, P3):

- Differential diagnosis of tooth wear: identify constricted chewing envelopes and occlusal dysfunction.

Functional Treatment Planning (13:30 – 17:00)

— Aligner Therapy in Full-Mouth Rehabilitation:

- Face-oriented aligner therapy designed to optimize aesthetics and function.

— Maximizing Aesthetics:

- Correct overjet and overbite while aligning gingival margins for ideal incisal edge positioning.

— Minimizing Tooth Preparation:

- Move teeth strategically to create restorative space while preserving natural enamel for optimal adhesion.

— Functional Optimization:

- Align tooth segments to improve the chewing trajectory and reduce functional risk (P3) prior to finalizing occlusion.

— Kois Digital Workflow:

- Integrate digital scan bodies and the Kois Deprogrammer into digital data capture for predictable full-arch rehabilitation.

Segmental or Full-Arch Reconstruction

— Segmental Protocol:

- Stepwise management of the dental arch that accounts for patient-specific biological and financial considerations while maintaining the vertical dimension of occlusion.

— Occlusion Design:

- Tailor occlusion to the patient’s neuromuscular and functional characteristics.

— Case Analysis:

- Review complex full-mouth rehabilitation cases using the Kois 10-step protocol.

Hands-on

Practical training of the “Functional Test Drive” protocol:

— Material Handling:

- Hands-on application of flowable composite using transparent silicone keys.

— Functional Refinement P1–P3:

- P1: Refining the mock-up to achieve stable, even bilateral contacts in centric relation (CR)
- P2: Verifying lateral occlusal “stops” and ensure patient comfort with the new vertical dimension of occlusion
- P3: Performing “frictionless” adjustments by eliminating interferences along the chewing trajectory (Chewing Envelope) to achieve long-term functional stability.
