Antes de cerrar espacios debemos conocer cual es el diagnóstico de nuestro paciente y la planificación de tratamiento del mismo, ya que dependiendo del tipo de estrategia utilizada para el cierre podremos disminuir la altura facial antero inferior o aumentarla y eso dependerá del diagnóstico.
En los cierres de espacio usualmente se produce una inclinación palatina de los dientes antero superiores y una inclinación lingual de los dientes antero inferiores, para evitar este efecto adverso utilizaremos una pequeña curva reversa en el extremo posterior del arco y dependiendo del caso colocaremos postes o hooks crimpables de diferentes alturas, si queremos disminuir el efecto de sobre mordida entonces utilizaremos unos hooks mas largos, esto es en el caso de cierre de espacios de forma reciproca.
