Dr. Violet I. Haraszthy holds a Ph.D. in Oral Biology, specialty certificates in Periodontics and Prosthodontics, and a Master’s degree in Oral Sciences. With over five years of experience as Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry at SUNY Buffalo, Dr. Haraszthy managed a large budget, supervised 90+ faculty members, and oversaw a fully staffed dental laboratory. Currently she also serves as the Executive Director of University Dental Associates, Inc., the faculty practice.
Throughout her career, Dr. Haraszthy has been deeply involved in teaching preclinical and clinical courses, mentoring students, and leading a productive research laboratory. Notably, she was one of the first to identify oral bacterial pathogens in atherosclerotic plaques, with publication, "Identification of Periodontal Pathogens in Atheromatous Plaques," recognized as one of the 100 most cited papers in dentistry. In recognition of their international impact, Dr. Haraszthy was awarded an honorary Doctor Honoris Causa degree from the University of Szeged, Hungary.
Dr. Haraszthy serves on editorial boards of national and international dental journals and has been a Consultant for the American Dental Association. She also remains actively engaged in clinical practice, understanding the daily needs of patients. Passionate about dental outreach, Dr. Haraszthy participates in Remote Area Medical (RAM) trips and local initiatives, providing care to underserved communities, including veterans, children, and refugees.
